Job Description

The Estimator will assist the Vice-President of Sales by preparing accurate estimates and supporting various tasks related to project planning and execution. This role requires interaction with architects, engineers, general contractors, and subcontractors, while maintaining a professional demeanor and safeguarding the company's reputation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the supervisor in preparing estimates, attending meetings, and executing design and build project plans.
  • Compile estimates as instructed.
  • Comply with bid deadlines appropriately.
  • Interact professionally with architects, engineers, general contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain current knowledge of plumbing and piping industry standards, practices, and codes.
  • Stay updated on standards, practices, codes, and fee schedules of the appropriate authority having jurisdiction.
  • Utilize computer software programs such as Accubid, Quick Pen, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and ComputerEase effectively.
  • Maintain discretion regarding the company’s estimating methods, personnel wages, overhead, profit, and other company practices and strategies.
  • Ensure confidentiality of discussions with company personnel.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive, professional, honest, and hardworking relationships with customers, contractors, and company personnel.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED, with formal training in the plumbing trade.
  • Preferably five (5) years of experience as a journeyperson, including two (2) years in commercial/industrial plumbing construction.
  • Possess necessary tools for the tasks and duties of a Journeyman.
  • General knowledge and skills in plumbing/hydronic heating trades and working in commercial/industrial construction.
  • Ability to supervise and manage a crew, follow schedules, coordinate materials, labor, and hours to complete projects on time and within budget, and produce a quality product with no safety violations or accidents.
  • Physically capable of performing manual labor for extended periods.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills to interact with customers and employees, read reports, and follow instructions.
  • Capable of strenuous physical activity, including walking, carrying, reaching, bending, and lifting materials up to 100 pounds.Ability to work in all weather conditions and maintain a good driving record.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding company personnel issues, customer relations, financial information, and business practices.
  • Above-average mathematical and communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and ComputerEase.
  • Maintain professional and positive relationships with customers and employees.
  • Maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance (business casual).
